Includes the manuscript of The Road to Xanadu; six portfolios of The Anthology of Romantic Poets, which Lowes worked on for more than 15 years, but which was never completed and never published; articles on Geoffrey Chaucer, some in manuscript and some cut from periodicals with notes and corrections preparatory to republication; correspondence, 1928-1946, with Houghton Mifflin Company and others, chiefly regarding publication of The Anthology of Romantic Poets; and notes, letters, and printed material removed from books owned by Lowes.

Lowes was an American scholar of English literature, especially the poetry of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. At the time of these letters he was professor at Harvard University.
